Weather Plan

Overview

In the event of inclement weather prior to 8:00 a.m., the start time of the virtual race may be delayed by up to 1-hour. The first delay will be 30-minutes. If inclement weather conditions persist, a second 30-minute delay will be issued. Should the weather conditions be unsafe for the virtual race to start after 60-minutes, the event will be canceled for all participants.

Communications

Athletes will be notified of any changes that occur prior to event start by social media. Due to the nature of a 10 location virtual race format, notifications will be specific to the location(s) impacted by delay.

Shelter

The most prevalent delay will be a delay as a result of lighting. Ambassadors should instruct participants to shelter in place, in their personal vehicles or inside the coffee house until conditions are safe.

Stages of Delay or Cancellation Messaging

Stage 1: Pre-Event Message

WEATHER NOTICE: Weather conditions for the 44th Cap10K Virtual Race this Sunday, April 11, are being closely monitored. The Cap10K will be held rain or shine so long as dangerous weather conditions, such as thunder and lighting, do not exist. The event start may be delayed up to 1-hour, if necessary. An update would be posted as soon as it is clear for participants to gather at the start line.

Should the weather conditions continue to be dangerous and unsafe for the race, the Cap10K Virtual Race would be canceled for all participants.

Stage 2: Race Delayed Message

WEATHER NOTICE: The start time of the 2021 Cap10K Virtual Race (at Coffee House Location(s)) has been delayed 30 minutes due to dangerous weather conditions in the area. Please adjust your arrival time to the (Coffee House Location(s)) start line accordingly. If you are already on your way or have arrived at the race, please stay in your cars or find shelter in the coffee house or safe place.

The Cap10K will be held rain or shine so long as dangerous weather conditions, such as thunder and lightning, do not exist. Should the weather conditions continue to be dangerous and unsafe for the race, the Cap10K Virtual Race would be canceled for all participants.

Stage 3: Race Cancellation Message

WEATHER NOTICE: Due to dangerous weather conditions this morning, the 2021 Cap10K Virtual Race has been cancelled today. We apologize for the disappointment and inconvenience, but nothing is more important than the safety of our participants and volunteers. Please take every opportunity to run your Cap10K Virtual Race on a day with better weather between April 11-30, 2021.
