Going Virtual for 2021: Statesman Cap10K Announces Change to 44th Race

The Statesman Capitol 10,000 is changing its 44th race format from in-person on April 11, 2021, to virtual, April 11-30. More information is available at Cap10K.com/virtualrace.

“The pandemic continues to affect our community. Both in the interest of the health and safety of our participants and in anticipation of the city of Austin significantly modifying or canceling our large-scale in-person event, we are moving our 2021 Cap10K race to a virtual format,” said Jeff Simecek, Statesman Cap10K race director. “We are grateful for our running community’s continued understanding, as well as their support of our race and beneficiary, Marathon Kids. We plan to build upon last year’s successful contactless drive-thru packet pick-up and virtual race. We’re looking forward to making the most of going virtual in 2021, with 10 different routes for participants to run, and then getting to work on our 45th for 2022.”

Virtual race participants can pick up their 2021 race T-shirt, bib and finisher’s medal at the contactless drive-thru packet pick-up at the Austin American-Statesman: Friday, April 9, 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday, April 10, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This year’s drive-thru event will feature live music, giveaways and more. Packet mail delivery is also available for $11, which will cover the cost of postage. Detailed drive-thru packet pick-up instructions and virtual race information will be shared in forthcoming email communication to registered participants.

The Cap10K’s training program, Austin’s Coffee House 10K Sunrise Coffee, continues to be available to the running community. It features new training routes, encourages socially distanced camaraderie and helps support local businesses.

The current and final registration fee for this year’s race is $40 for adults. One dollar from every 2021 Cap10K registration goes to Marathon Kids, which helps kids grow healthy lives through running. Additionally, race participants can choose to make a donation when registering, which the Statesman will match up to $10,000, at Cap10K.com.

The Cap10K, presented by Baylor Scott & White Health, is the largest 10K race in Texas, a BibRave Top Race in America and a past Austin Fit Magazine’s “Best Race/Run.” General race information is available at Cap10K.com.
