Local Guide

Austin is thriving with great local training opportunities for this year’s Cap10K. Novice, intermediate and advanced runners alike have participated in the event annually and many of them continue to seek out the best recommendations, advice and referrals on training. We’ve composed this list of local training service providers for your convenience. The first step to completing a 10K goal is to learn how to achieve it.  Elevate your training with guided instruction or one of the social groups meetings and you can realize the 10K distance.

The Austin Runners Club is pleased to offer several free training programs for anyone wanting to participate. Training is offered year-round, with extra emphasis on preparing runners for Fall & Spring races. This program is based on the innovative Furman Institute of Running and Scientific Training (FIRST) training techniques. This unique philosophy makes running more accessible and limits over-training and burnout while producing faster race times–key points of ARC’s Run Less Run Faster Training Program

Training programs are free, but consider becoming an ARC member to enjoy discounts to local races, running stores, and more.

Austin FIT is an endurance training program for runners and walkers of all ability levels, from first-timers to experienced athletes. Our members enjoy a fun, non-intimidating, and safe training experience that focuses on getting to the start line physically and mentally prepared. Our certified coaches support a variety of pace groups, so no participant is left behind.

Camp Gladiator is a four week adult fitness boot camp that promises a motivating and challenging environment where men and women of all ages and fitness levels can push themselves. Campers should expect a total body workout. A typical session could include interval training, sprint and agility drills, stations, plyometrics, body weight strength drills, cardio mix, and much more. Camp Gladiator is designed to increase your functional strength, speed, stamina and, most importantly, to deliver results. CG is the ideal program for cross training in preparation for the Cap10K.

We are an Austin running group led by coach Erik Stanley, 2015 Cap10K Champion! We have trail coaching, marathon coaching, guided and supported trail runs, and we offer custom training plans. We also have private coaching sessions for those runners needing additional focus and attention. In town for the week or looking to join us? Come out for a free week to any of our Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday group runs!

Born To Run is a comprehensive program developed and proved over 30 years to improve the stride pattern of the runner to avoid injuries and run with more efficiency. They type of training combines all the elements of training to maximize the adaptive ability of the Human Body to become and endurance athlete.

Austin’s premier women-only training program since 2002 welcomes women of all fitness levels, ages, shapes and sizes. Whether your goal is to run/walk your first half 5K or qualify for the Boston Marathon, our experienced, certified coaching team will work with you to help you set your goals and be there every step of the way! In addition to endurance and speed training, our program offers yoga for runners specifically designed to minimize the risk of injuries most common to female anatomy. Our trainees benefit from the unique social interaction, support and motivation that our team provides.

St. Elmo Runners exist to bring the south Austin community of walkers, runners, racers, stroller pushers and neighbors together. Training for life as much as we are training for marathons. 1…2…1…2! We are a free weekly run crew that meets in the St. Elmo/The Yard area running at 6 AM every Wednesday morning.

The Cap10K is the granddaddy of Austin iconic races!
The LARGEST 10K in Texas (7th largest in the country) with well over 20,000 runners and walkers each year with costumes, dogs, kids, and adults alike. Yes, the course is challenging but it’s nothing Rogue can’t prepare you for.  Whether you are starting fresh or looking to put your aerobic fitness from your all/winter training to good use we will have you race ready on April 7, 2019. Join the Rogue Team when signing up to pick up your packet at Rogue!

Whether you’re searching for a life-changing experience or a structured training program and everything in between, this group is for you!

Gilbert Tuhabonye, former NCAA All-American, brings his successful running career, award-winning proven training methods and inspirational life experiences to offer one-of-a-kind coaching and personal motivation to all levels of runners. Through individual attention and group training, Gilbert combines the joy of running, a love for life and state-of-the-art coaching techniques in an educational and inspiring format that has grown into one of the most popular training programs in Texas. For a combined 10 years, Gilbert and Gilbert’s Gazelles have been voted Austin Fit Magazine’s best running coach/runner/group.

Austin Youth Fitness running group’s focus is on improving running endurance and overall fitness, developing “functional” strength, flexibility, and improving core strength and body alignment. Further, participants will likely see improvements in self-image, confidence, attitude, social-interpersonal-relationship-skills, as well as ability to focus on tasks and school-work.

Austin Youth Fitness meets at thirteen Austin Area schools, and we make fitness fun for kids!

ACT Running’s Beginner/Intermediate program makes training for the Capitol 10K attainable, enjoyable and down right fun! By using interval running (3 minutes run: 1 minute walk) three day per week, you’ll safely build to the goal distance. Be a part of a supportive, noncompetitive team that will help you reach your goal. Participants will receive weekly training tips via e-mail, a technical running shirt and coach-led workouts. A two month base of 5+ weekly miles is recommended.

Get fit and make a difference! Asha – Strides of Hope is an endurance training program run by experienced Team Asha coaches and mentors who volunteer their time to train folks for long distance races. We offer training programs for runners and walkers, designed with a goal of completing 10k, half-marathon, or full-marathon. This year we are offering FREE training for Capitol 10k to anyone who would like to join Team Asha. Our goal is to create awareness and raise funds for underserved and underprivileged children in India. We do not require a fundraising commitment from you for Cap 10k. However, you are welcome to fundraise any amount that you can. We have group runs at multiple locations around Austin metro. The group will meet for two weekday short runs and one weekend long run as part of Cap 10k training program.
