A Virtual Race (VR) is a race event that can be completed at your convenience. Run or walk the required distance any point during the given time window at a location of your choosing. You’ll need to track your performance so it’s a good idea to download the Strava app, sync your watch and join the Cap10K Club before you head out. Watch the challenge unfold as runners and walkers post their 10K achievements.
A Virtual Race in Strava works similarly to Strava’s Segment Challenges. A Segment is a portion of a predetermined route that members of Starva can run and then compare their performance against others that have run the same route (or segment of the route). We’ve created a few Segment Challenges of our own and we hope you enjoy these classic Austin 10K routes listed below. In lieu of the actual Cap10K, you’ll be given a window to complete the given distance on your own terms, from any location.
In the Statesman Cap10K’s Virtual Race challenge you can race a segment or any 6.2 mile route of your choosing. We’re really excited to see thousands of you running our annual 10K in this new way and staying connected with the Cap10K community for the long run.
Track your fitness activity with Strava. Record your run, map a route & analyse your training with all the stats – for free!
Whether you’re training for a 10K or simply love tracking your fitness, turn your smartphone or GPS watch into a sophisticated tracker with Strava. Join millions of athletes and active people and reach your fitness goals!
If you do not have a GPS tracking enabled watch, no problem, use the GPS tracker included in the Strava app (the Record button at the bottom-center of your smartphone screen starts the tracker). If you are using a watch you will need to Sync your watch with your phone after each run to download activity.
Connecting our community is at the heart of the Cap10K club experience, connect with runners from around the city, country and even the globe — this is the best part! When you join the club you will be connected to a network of Cap10K’rs. Post your activity, share a route, compare your training and inspire others to get fit.
Now that you’re logged in to Strava, its time to go for a run. Join a Segment below or blaze your own path.
Tracking a segment route works best from your phone if you’re not familiar with the route. With your phone you can view and follow a street map overlaid with the segment’s route. If you don’t want to use your phone, print a map, use your GPS enabled watch and download your time later.
Once you’ve selected a segment and opened up the route, select Use Route. Your physical location will appear as a blue dot on the map. Locate the green dot (Starting Line), click the start button and begin your run. The race course, highlighted in lite blue, will change to a dark blue as you complete a section of the race route. The black and white checkered dot is the finish line.
