Global Running Day 10K

Global Running Day is a day for people around the world to celebrate the joys of running. Participation is easy—just pledge to take part in some type of running activity June 2, 2021. It can be a solo lap around the block, a long run with friends, or even a game of tag with your kids. The key is to share your passion for the sport and inspire others to get moving too. The Cap10K is hosting a free social run from the Statesman parking lot. You’re welcome to join us, we’d love to see you.
It’s Free to participate but RSVP with Eventbrite, it’ll help us plan our supplies.
We will also send you travel and/or weather advisory info when needed.

Pizza & Beer Special

We’ve partnered with local legends Southside Flying Pizza and Last Stand Brewing Company to present our Global Running Day tailgater special. Pre-order your pie and suds from Southside Flying Pizza before 12:00 p.m. and it will be delivered hot and fresh to the Statesman for you to pick-up after your run. Then grab a lawn chair or a blanket to kick back and enjoy the downtown Austin skyline.

Step 1  To begin your PRE-ORDER first choose Pick-up, Date 6/2/21, and Time 7:00 p.m. 

Step 2  Under Pizza Specials section, choose Statesman Run. Note, ALL pre-orders will include FREE delivery to the Statesman for pick-up.

Step 3  Choose from one of 4 large delicious Southside Flying Pizza pie flavors (set menu, 14-in pie, 8-slices/pie) and one of 3 Last Stand Brewing Company canned beer six-packs (set menu).

  • Offer valid starting Wed., May 26 through Wed., June 2 at Noon (12:00 p.m.).
  • Pizza+Beer Combo is a set menu, all other menu items are void for this special delivery offer.
  • No limit on the number of Pizza+Beer Combo specials ordered.
  • Customer may be asked to provide valid 21+ driver’s license to claim order.

Hygiene Safety

Please observe and follow proper hygiene safety while attending the event. Respect your neighbor’s choice to mask-up or un-mask.

  1. Face mask optional outside.
  2. Face mask required inside.
  3. Practice social distancing of  6-feet when possible.
  4. Wash hands frequently.
  5. Cover coughs and sneezes.
  6. Avoid touching your face.
  7. Fist bump or elbow bump recommended.

Stay home if you have any of the these symptoms:

  • fever
  • shortness of breath
  • cough
  • chills
  • muscle pain
  • headache
  • sore throat
  • loss of taste or smell
  • nausea or vomiting
  • diarrhea

Ample free parking available on property. Property pay stations are free on event day.

Ride your bike, we have bike rack parking. Don’t forget to bring your own lock.

Bring your own lawn chair or a blanket to chillax on when you get back from the run. Camp chairs also provided.


Drinks & Snacks

Bring your own beverage. No glass containers. Bottled and sparkling water plus snack chips provided.


Congress Avenue Bats

Each night around sunset roughly 1.5 million Mexican Free-tailed bats emerge from the recesses of the Congress Avenue bridge in search of insects. View the largest urban bat population in the country from the waterfront lawn or the bridge, both spectacular views.

Well behaved leashed pets welcome.

Social event run events are run and walk friendly, free, open to the public and begin and end at each respective host location. There is no official start time and there is no official timing or scoring. Digital course maps and directions are provided online. Pick up a printed copy of the route from the event host before you start. Parking information is variable based on the location. Follow local parking information for parking policy. 

This is a self-guided and self-paced activity. There are no street closures or directional signage marking the training route. Participants should abide by and follow all local and state traffic safety signage and public use information. Social run routes are measured to an approximate 6.2 mile distance however, participants always have the option to U-turn at any point to match their fitness ability. Social run route surfaces will vary from sidewalks and crushed granite to paved pathways and bike lanes.

Participation in social run events are potentially hazardous to the health of individuals who are not in good physical condition and health, and they should not participate unless medically able and properly trained. All participants must abide by the rules and decisions of any event organized, and assume all risks associated with the event and any associated event or activities, including but not limited to falls, contact with other participants, and effects of the weather, traffic, road conditions, and all such risks being known and appreciated.


I acknowledge and ASSUME ALL OF THE RISKS and aspects of the Event. I acknowledge that running, walking and other portions of an event are inherently dangerous and I understand that I will be participating in an Event at my own risk, that I am responsible for the risk of participation in an Event, and that I am waiving and releasing my legal rights to sue for any injury or damages arising out of or resulting from my participation in an Event. I understand that I am solely responsible for the conditions of the areas in which I will be participating in the Event and that the Event Organizer has no control over these areas nor will they incur any liability if I should become injured during participation. I understand that participation involves risks and dangers which include, without limitation, the potential for serious bodily injury, sickness and disease, permanent disability, paralysis and loss of life; loss of or damage to equipment/property; exposure to extreme conditions and circumstances; accidents, contact or collision with other participants, spectators, vehicles or other natural or manmade objects; dangers arising from adverse weather conditions; imperfect course conditions; water, road and surface hazards; equipment failure; inadequate safety measures; participants of varying skill levels and situations beyond the immediate control of the Event Organizers. I further understand that any injury or damages incurred may be the result of negligence, omission or carelessness by the Released Parties.

Having read this disclaimer and knowing these facts, and in consideration of acceptance of my participation into socila rune events, participants waive and release Gannett Co., Inc, d/b/a  Austin American-Statesman, and any other individuals, firms and organizations associated with the activity, their representatives, and successors, from all claims of liabilities or any kind resulting in whole or in part from participation in social rune events or the acts or omissions by and organization, firm or individual that take place in connection with social run events. By participating in social run events, you acknowledge and agree to the terms of this Disclaimer and Release of Liability.
