Marathon Kids

We are Marathon Kids and we are on a mission to get kids moving. Through running, we show kids they can achieve more than they ever thought possible and put them on the path to healthier lives. Our Marathon Kids work at their own pace to run or walk a total of four marathons, and we provide the training, rewards, tools, and resources to keep them moving. We believe every kid deserves to live a happy, healthy life and that any adult can be empowered and trained to become an inspiring coach.

Attend Austin 10K’r social events to complete miles towards your Marathon Kids training log. Each social event will have its own Marathon Kids family 1-mile route and map. Marathon Kids can earn a special edition armadillo half-mile or one-mile achievement stamp in their training log for participating.  As an additional bonus Marathon Kids headquarters will award prizes for kids with the special edition armadillo achievement stamps on their training logs.  So, start your training and collect those stamps.

Hey Marathon Kids! start collecting your stamps because you can earn special prizes listed below. Prizes can be claimed when attending the final Austin 10K’r social run on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at the Austin American-Statesman from 8am-10am. Texas wildflower Run – Route Description

map_my_route_17The Texas Wildflower Run is a traditional 3 to 5.5-mile route that travels on the Ann & Roy Butler Hike & Bike Trail along Lady Bird Lake. One of the best times of the year to plant wildflower seeds in Texas is late winter before the spring showers. At the event native Texas wildflower seed packets will be provided, and with your assistance we will help Mother Nature get a head start on covering the trail with vibrant spring colors. There a several green spaces along the trail that are sheltered from spring time grass mowing and we will attempt to seed these areas. Texas Wildflower seed packets provided and enjoy Ruta Maya Coffee and other Wholy Bagels when you finish.

Starting from the Statesman’s East parking lot we will head towards the lake and connect with the Lady Bird Lake trailhead. Utilizing various bridge crossing you can decide how long to make your personal wildflower run. The main trail follows the south shoreline westward to the MoPac Expressway pedestrian bridge. As long as you always keep the river on your right you shouldn’t get lost on your loop. At the MoPac Bridge the trail crosses the river and returns back along the north shoreline to the Congress Ave. Bridge.

If you turn and cross the river at the Pfluger Pedestrian Bridge and return along the north shoreline to the Congress Ave. Bridge it will be a 3-mile loop. If you go all the way down to the MoPac Bridge and loop back along the north shoreline to Congress Ave. it will be a 5.5-mile loop. Of course you can always go out and U-turn at any point to make an even out ‘n’ back distance.

It is our recommendation that participants use sidewalks, pedestrian pathways or hike & bike trails and avoid using the street. There are NO STREET CLOSURES for this route. Participants should obey traffic and pedestrian laws at all times. Please use caution when crossing streets and only cross at designated crosswalks.

Volunteer

The social runs have begun to take off in popularity and we could use an extra set of hands on occasion to prepare the activities for each meeting. Light set-up and clean-up opportunities available for those who want to sandwich their run with volunteering before and after the meet-up. Also, looking for those local yokels who’ve been their-done that, to share their experience for running and walking in Austin. Good directions and insight on local routes always welcomed by novice guests. If you’d like to share your time please email us for more info.
