Moonlight Tower 2 Run – Route Description

map_my_route_17The Moonlight Tower 2 Run is a creative 3 to 5-mile route that travels south into Austin’s South Congress (SoCo) District to seek out one of only 17 remaining light towers. Starting from the Statesman’s West parking lot we will head down South Congress weaving along the shops, hotels and restaurants that line the avenue. This is your chance to window shop or explore the strip before hipsters and locals roll out of bed to grab their cafe´ from Jo’s Coffee or breakfast taco at Torchy’s Tacos. The route is a gentle climb south but well worth it as overlook downtown on the return trip. Participants have two route distance options, 3 mile route that turns a W. Mary St. or the 5 mile route that continues south to W. Oltorf St before turning. Either route will turn off Congress and head west at these two intersections and travel over to South First St. The #2 Moonlight Tower sits partially hidden by the tress as the corner of S. First and W. Monroe St. If you pass the silver airstream Gourdough’s Big Fat Donuts food trailer you’ve gone too far. Once you reach the moonlight tower u-turn and retrace your steps back to the Statesman for refreshments and high fives.

It is our recommendation that participants use sidewalks, pedestrian pathways or hike & bike trails and avoid using the street. Please use caution when crossing streets and only cross at designated cross walks.
