You may know what to eat as a runner – but do you know when to eat?

“As important as what you eat is when you eat. Try to eat 45 minutes before a training run to give your body the fuel it needs and some digestion time,” says Cameron Cope, Baylor, Scott & White Health Physical Therapist. “Be careful not to overeat. Running with food sitting in your gut is uncomfortable and can hinder performance.”

“After a run you have about a 15 minute window to best replace and absorb nutrients for optimal recovery. Make sure to get protein in to aid in repair as well as a carbohydrate to replace what you burned.”
